Allergies

As with almost all substances, there are allergy sufferers who react to e-smoking.

The substance propylene glycol (PG) used in liquids can trigger the following reactions:

  • Scratchy throat
  • Headache
  • Problems with the sinuses
  • Nausea
  • Causing numbness in the tongue and face
  • accelerated heartbeat
  • General malaise.

The same reactions can also be triggered by polyethylene glycol (PEG).

Switching to Vegetable Glycerin (VG) products may be a solution at best.

These are very well tolerated. VG produces a very dense vapor cloud, and the smoker does not experience an aggressive but rather a gentle smoking sensation when inhaling.

VG liquids are more viscous than PG-containing flavor liquids.

Allergic reactions can also be triggered by other chemical components of the electronic cigarette. Theoretically, any flavoring can be a trigger for side effects.

Those who buy liquids without added nuts, gluten, sugar or other sweeteners reduce the risk of provoking allergic symptoms.

Some liquid manufacturers also offer vegan and kosher flavored liquids.

Those who are not quite sure if they have an allergy to the vapor cigarette can have a small amount of the liquid dripped onto their arm.

Similar to an allergy test at the doctor's office, a reddish discoloration of the corresponding skin area can be observed in case of an allergic reaction to PG or another ingredient.
