ABC of vaping

14500

The notation for the designation of rechargeable batteries is standardized. The first two numbers stand for the diameter (in mm), the next two for the length and the last number for the design of the battery. For the 14500 battery this means: 14 mm diameter, 50 mm long and the number 0 stands for an oval shape.

18650

The most common battery with a capacity of up to 3000 mAh

510 thread

The most common thread of all battery carriers.

AFC (Airflow control)

This is the term used to describe the adjustable air volume on an evaporator.

battery

Mostly lithium-ion battery, supplies devices with electrical energy.

Battery name

Flattop, Nipple, ICR, IMR.... The I denotes the lithium-ion battery, the R stands for the construction and the middle letter describes the chemical additives. IMR: The M means manganese, in the short term high current outputs can occur. ICR: The C denotes cobalt. The current output is long term and uniform. Flattop = flat head, in some devices with nipple.

Battery carrier

The casing in which a battery is installed. Depending on the system, the battery can be removed or is permanently installed.

Flavor

Here, food flavors are used for flavoring. Not all food flavors are suitable for vaporizing and you should never steam a flavor pure.

Atomizer

Also called the vaporizer head, this element is the most important part of the vaporizer. The Atomizer contains a wick and a heating coil. The latter is brought to glow by energy supply, whereby the liquid transported via the wick evaporates and can then be inhaled.

Base

The base is PG+VG without flavorings but possibly enriched with nicotine.

BDC

Abbreviation for "Bottom Dual Coil". A BDC evaporator has two heating coils in the lower part of the evaporator, which ensures a constant liquid flow.

Clearomizer

Clearomizers are tank vaporizers that are equipped with a completely or partially transparent tank.

Coil

English designation for the winding (single coil or dual coil)

DCC

Abbreviation for "Dual Coil Cartomizer". DCC vaporizers have two heating coils that are activated simultaneously, which provides a much stronger vapor development.

Driptip

Mouthpiece for e-cigarettes. Many driptips have a standardized connection and can be exchanged for other models.

Dryburn

Dryburn is a process that can be used to clean heavily soiled coils. For this purpose, the heating coil of the vaporizer is exposed and brought to glow for a few seconds without liquid inflow. Due to the high heat development, liquid residues can be removed.

Flash

The flash stands for the effect of nicotine after inhalation. However, the term is also often associated with the inhalation of vapor and the associated feeling in the throat and lungs.

Regulated device

These devices have integrated electronics that ensure that the amount of steam can be regulated (VV, VW). It also protects the battery in case of incorrect use.

Pulsed battery

These electronics are responsible for constantly delivering the same amount of steam.

Heating coil

The heating coil is an elementary component of the evaporator. It consists of a spiral winding of wire (usually square wire), which is placed around a wick (usually fiberglass cord).

Liquid

Consumable liquid for e-cigarettes consisting of propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerine (VG), distilled water, flavors and, if necessary, nicotine. Liquids are fed to the heating coil, where they are converted into vapor when the e-cigarette is activated.

mAh

The battery charge is measured in milliampere hours and the higher it is, the less often the battery needs to be charged. Example of calculation: if 2,000 mAh is specified, the battery carrier will provide 2,000 mA for one hour or 200 mA of current for 10 hours before it is discharged.

mg/ml

This specification explains the nicotine content in a liquid. 10 mg/ml corresponds to a content of 1%.

PG

The abbreviation PG stands for propylene glycol, a main component of liquids. This is a food additive (E1520) that is needed to bind flavorings.

Rebuildable vaporizer

Also called "rebuildable" for short, this term stands for vaporizers in which the heating coils are made by the user. This process is referred to as coiling, as the scantling wire is wound around the wick, which is usually a fiberglass cord. Self-winding vaporizers are therefore characterized by comparatively low maintenance costs, since no atomizers need to be purchased.

Tankomizer

Vaporizer that is equipped with a tank. If the tank is completely or partially transparent, it is called a clearomizer.

Temperature control (TC)

If a unit has temperature control, the steam temperature can be set manually.

Throat hit

The scratching in the throat that can occur when vaporizing, reminiscent of the cigarette.

Non regulated device

Also called mechanical battery carriers, they have no electronics. They consist of an on/off switch, a metal tube and a receptacle for the vaporizer.

Vaporizer

Next to the battery, the most important component of the e-cigarette. In the vaporizer, the liquid is vaporized so that it can then be inhaled. Typical components of a vaporizer are tank, base, heating coil or atomizer and mouthpiece. Common types of vaporizers are cartomizers, tankomizers, clearomizers and self-wrapping vaporizers.

VG

The abbreviation VG stands for Vegetable Glycerin, which is one of the main components of liquids. A high VG content is noticeable through denser vapor and more viscous liquid.

VV, VW

Here, the voltage (VV - variable voltage) or the power (VW-variable wattage) is regulated. This allows the amount of steam to be optimally adapted to your own taste.

resistance(Ohm)

The lower the resistance, the more current can flow through the vaporizer. The more current, the hotter the heating coil glows in the vaporizer, which in turn influences the taste of the liquid.
